'Hope' - Acrylic painting on canvas.
'Hope' is a powerful, evocative painting that speaks directly to the heart of every animal lover and art collector. This unique piece features a black rhino, urgently running towards the viewer, it's eyes pleading for assistance and filled with a glimmer of hope. Beside the rhino, a dove, the universal symbol of hope, adds a poignant touch to the composition. The abstract and colourful background is designed to draw the eye immediately to the rhino, emphasizing it's significance and the message behind the artwork.
The inspiration for 'Hope' stems from my lifelong love of rhinos, a passion ignited when I was just six years old. A visit to Port Lympne with my father introduced me to my first rhino, a majestic creature that left an indelible mark on my heart. That day, I walked away with a cuddly rhino toy from the gift shop, a treasured companion that has stayed with me for nearly 22 years. This early encounter fueled my fascination and concern for rhinos, leading me to learn about the dire threats they face from poaching and the outdated demand for ivory.
Today, the black rhino population is critically endangered, with fewer than 5,500 individuals left in the wild due to relentless poaching and habitat loss. These magnificent animals are hunted for their horns, driven by myths and misconceptions about their supposed medicinal properties.
The creation of 'Hope' is my way of contributing to the crucial efforts of rhino conservation through Artivism. By bringing awareness to the plight of these creatures, I aim to inspire others to take action. A portion of the profits from the sale of this painting will be donated to The Aspinall Foundation and Helping Rhinos, organizations dedicated to the rewilding and protection of rhinos. These foundations work tirelessly to ensure a future for rhinos, and it is my dream to one day contribute more directly to their invaluable work.
This painting is not just an artwork; it is a call to action, a plea for help, and a symbol of hope for the future of the black rhino
